Whos should test
When you are taking warfarin or when you have unexplained or prolonged bleeding or inappropriate blood clotting.
What is INR
international normalised ratio - the measurement of how long it takes blood to form a clot.
Coagulation or blood clotting is a protective mechanism of the body when bleeding occurs. When a blood vessel is damaged, a series of reactions take place involving substances found in the blood known as clotting factors. They are called this because they contribute to the formation of a blood clot.
international normalized ratio (INR) is calculated from a PT result and is used to monitor how well the blood-thinning medication (anticoagulant) warfarin (Coumadin®) is working to prevent blood clots.
Also known as:- PT prothrombin time
- PT Pro Time
- INR
Getting a sample
A blood sample drawn from a fingerstick.
If you are receiving anticoagulant therapy, the blood sample should be collected before taking your daily dose.
Using this meter with Roche Diagnostics CoaguChek XS PT Test Strips provides flexible, accurate test strips used for PT/INR anticoagulation testing.
The changing rate indicates the speed at which blood is coagulating. This provides a quick and reliable measurement that can be used to decide whether or not to take blood thinners or other drugs that may affect the blood.
Coaguchek INR testing measures the coagulation factors providing fast, reliable, on-the-spot determination of prothrombin time.
CoaguCheck XS is ideal for home self-testing.
Fast results: The CoaguChek XS meter features two-button operation, automatic power-on and a large, easy-to-read display. Just one drop of blood is applied to the test strip to measure clotting time. The CoaguChek XS displays INR results in about a minute. The support you need.
