Perhaps Span-America’s best-known product, Geo-Matt was designed and tested in the early 1980’s in conjunction with the well-known Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) at the Baylor College of Medicine. Geo-Matt was the very first overlay engineered specifically to counter each of the major causative factors in the formation of pressure ulcers: direct pressure, shearing, friction, and the build-up of heat and moisture.

Configured with more than 800 precision-cut individually articulating cells in three distinct zones, its smaller cells give contoured support to the head and lower extremities, while the larger cells support and comfort the more concentrated weights of the thighs and torso. Once launched commercially, its combination of pressure ulcer prevention and user comfort quickly made it the overlay of choice in facilities throughout the US. The top surface is cut using a patented Geo-Matt Design, which creates more than 800 individually responsive foam cells that are anatomically
sized to the area of the body they carry. This zoned design delivers the ideal
support characteristics needed at the head, torso, and lower extremities. By independently
absorbing pressure points, the cells allow the Geo-Matt to customize its support
to the body's natural curvature while minimizing the effects of pressure and shearing.
In addition, Geo-Matt's exclusive " Ring-of-Air® " feature helps to ventilate the surface, channeling heat away from the patient

The Geo-Matt comes with a cover made of bacteriostatic fabric that is fire resistant,
fluidproof, tear resistant, cleanable, and replaceable. The pleated design allows
full integration with the mattress’s Geo-Matt style shear-relieving surface while
