Hospital Bed Mattress

Description Technical Specs

Foam Hospital Bed Mattress Extra Long

Invacare Economy Foam Mattress
model 5184, TB 1633 compliant, 36"W x 84"L

The Invacare 5184 Home Care Foam mattress brings the comfort, therapeutic value, and durability of a foam mattress to the home care market at an economical price that meets fire regulation code 16 CFR 1633.

This Invacare Foam Mattress is superior in comfort when compared to standard inner-spring type hospital bed mattress. Mid-firmness, you won't sink down into foam, but experience a smooth consistent surface without feeling bed springs like the inner-spring types.

The vinylized nylon cover is antibacterial, anti-static, acid resistance, waterproof.

This Invacare Therapeutic Support Surface is designed to aid in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers.

Note about Mattress size vs. Bed size:

80" sleep surface:
  • A standard size hospital bed measures 80" for the "sleep surface length" but if you measure between the head and footboard you will see a 84" gap. This is intentional and allows for movement of the mattress when raising and lowering the head or foot of the bed. After all, you do not want the mattress to bind, or eventually wear through the mattress cover if rubbing against the footboard. You need a gap.
84" Sleep surface:
  • An 84" Hospital Bed is a standard 80" bed with the addition of a "Bed Extender" installed in the center of the bed. You guessed it - the extender adds 4" to the overall length of the bed. With the "4" Extender" installed the gap between head and footboard is 88" and this allows for movement of the 84" mattress.
Why this Note?
We bring this information to your attention so you choose the correct mattress size. Many customers inherit or purchase a Hospital Bed without a mattress, and even those customers shopping for a replacement mattress sometimes use a tape measure to measure the distance between head and footboard. If it measures 84" you should purchase an 80" mattress. If it measures 88" you should purchase an 84" mattress.

Product Features:
  • Comfortable sleep surface minimizes patient complaints
  • 250-lb weight capacity
  • Pressure readings show therapeutic value over an innerspring mattress
  • 50% lighter weight than most innerspring mattresses and more flexible for deliveries
  • High quality 1.5 lb./cu. ft. - density foam provides comfort and durability
  • Durable 10.5 - ounce vinylized nylon cover is antibacterial, anti-static, acid resistance, waterproof & Meet fire regulation code 16 CFR 1633 & 16 CFR 1632
